Don't Forget Them

With all the furor over health care reform, shouting matches at Town Hall Meetings, and the crap-sliding economy dominating the News, our Blogs, and our Minds - I think its important to remember that there are other extremely vital fights going on right this very moment.

When US forces were at the height of combat operations in Iraq, it seemed like you couldn't help but think about US Service Men and Women putting their lives on the line every day. The mainstream media kept it at the forefront, of course, because most of them seemed to be against our success in the region. One of the actual results of that continuous coverage, however, was to keep our soldiers and marines at the front of our minds.

Since Evil Bush is out, and Obama the Conciliator has taken over, I'm not sure that the MSM knows exactly what to do. It seems to me that the work our men and women overseas is going largely ignored.

Trust me, though. While Obama may insist that there is no "War on Terror", and try to do away with words like "Jihadist"... the threat and our response to it is still very real.

Our struggle to stop Obama's domestic "policies" is extremely important. But do me a favor and stop every once in a while and give a thought to our boys and girls "over there", fighting to stomp out the bastards that hate Americans even MORE than the Statist Looters do.

I found a short CBS video that I've embedded below. It features the Marine push to drive the Taliban from the town of Dahaneh, in southern Afghanistan, dubed Operation Eastern Resolve II. It's going on this week, but you'll hardly hear the barest mention of it in the press.

You may have to put up with an advertisement before the news story starts, because Obama hasn't decided that the Mainstream Media needs to curb its thirst for obscene profits.. yet.

From what I've read, they've faced serious resistance from the Taliban. They've noticed an change in tactics by the Taliban Fighters, most specifically a shift to more aimed fire and less of the "spray and pray" small arms technique that they've typically encountered in the past. There's also been a tendancy for the Taliban to increase the use of civilian shields, since the US forces are under the restrictions to avoid civilian casualties.

From an AP story:

"The British jet called in by the U.S. Marines had the Taliban position in sight, but the pilot refused to fire, a decision that frustrated Marines on the ground but was in line with new orders by the top U.S. commander to protect civilians.

The Marines themselves didn't attack militants shooting at them from a compound Wednesday during the same battle because women and children were there, an approach meant to avoid civilian casualties at all costs."

Thanks for that - I pray daily for our forces overseas in combat. They're fighting a peculiarly barbarian enemy; lets see if MSM gets behind them for the sake of their Messiah president.

Paladin, thanks for reminding us what's important.

We need to hear more about these men and women and less about "celebrities". These people are the true role models, not some airheaded actress or model.

If you want to have a better understanding of how the Taliban is changing tactics, this is a good place to start.
