Giving Up?

The Other Mike S., over at No Nanny State - Molon Labe! , makes some interesting observations about the general discouragement that exists from time to time among Conservative Bloggers. He says:

"So many bad things are happening so quickly, it gets a bit overwhelming."

He goes on to recognize that our side giving in, is exactly what the Socialist/Statist's want. And I agree. I'm of the school of thought that you keep fighting as long as there's something to fight for. The whole post got me to thinking again about something that's been on my mind the past several months.

I've heard quite often, even before the election, that some folks have had enough of all of it and are sitting back to watch it burn. Their logic, they say, is that the system is too corrupt and broken. The Douchebags are too firmly entrenched and the only way to clean house and get rid of all the rats is for the house to actually crumble completely, so we can build a new one.

That point of view does have some validity. I don't think they're right, but they might be. Everyone has their own limits, and if you've reached yours - who am I to say you have to keep plodding away at it? Want to drop off the grid and disappear? I don't blame you. I've thought about that myself more than once in the past 44 years. I'll try to encourage you to hang around and work for change (the good kind, not the Obama kind), but in the end the choice is entirely yours and I'll wish you well.

However, I've had a couple of people become so disgusted that they want to push things that direction faster than it's happening already. They don't want to just call it quits for themselves. They want to fan the flames and push things along a little quicker - presumably so that we can get to the rebuilding part even faster. They want to call it quits for me and mine, too.

If you fall into that camp, you should know that I've got two problems with your point of view, and their pretty important ones. So important, in fact, that I'll go to pretty much any lengths to see that your vision doesn't come to pass.

1. In case you haven't noticed, we don't live in a vacuum. This isn't the United World of America. As Americentric as I tend to be myself, I still realize that there's lots of other interests in the world - many of which are either ambivalent toward our well being or downright hostile toward it. There is no reason to believe that, should our society and government eventually collapse, these outside interests will sit glibly by and twiddle their thumbs while we get our shit together.

And that makes the massive assumption that there will be anything left after a collapse to put back together to begin with. If the looters are given free reign, and the result is a crash of our society and government - I find it EXTREMELY unlikely that there will be anything salvageable after the fact.

2. If a house burns down with rats in it... you take care of the rats alright. But even if you're able to build a nice new house in it's place, it will only stay rat free for so long. You see, the rats have ALWAYS been here. They will ALWAYS BE HERE. It's Human Fucking Nature for looters to exists. They will NEVER go away completely.

If we allow them to win, or worse - encourage the collapse that results from their looting - it WON'T SOLVE ANYTHING!! In time, it will happen all over again.

The way you deal with Rats is not to try to wipe them out. You manage them, just like any other fact of life. You stay on your toes, you keep them from building strength and numbers, and you never, EVER, forget that they are there lurking in the shadows. We've allowed the rats to run the show a little to much here recently, and it's going to take some elbow grease on our part to put things right. We have no one to blame but ourselves, though. We get the government we deserve.

There's nothing to do but quit 'yer bitchin' and get to work.

To have some sort of utopian dream of a world without Rats is to seriously delude yourselves into a dangerous train of thinking. The only way to rid the planet of Rats would rid the world of US too.

And I'm not down with that.

Who would do the Girl Friday posts?.... Some Liberal Rat?

I think not.

Paladin,

Oh so true. If a person feels they are discouraged, then they need to back up a step, pick a battle and fight that one to victory.

I stick to 2nd Amendment Rights and Hunter's Rights; It's all I can manage.

The other option is to build up the circle of trusted associates that can filter and focus issues that you can't delve into yourself for lack of time or energy.

Get ready, pick a brawl, and go slug it out until you've won!

It's darkest before the dawn, but the sounds from the Tea Parties and the pushback on the health plan are the rooster clearing his throat.

I think Albert has the right perspective - pick ONE (or just a few) battles, and then fight like hell.

If you've got too many balls in the air, you're bound to drop a few.

(I was going to say that I need to now pick my balls, but it didn't quite come out right!)

I need to figure out which direction I want to head. So many choices...

If we do go all commie at some point, here is a picture you can post for your Friday pix.

I'm just here to help, comrade...

Albert - Excellent advice. I've been guilty of tilting at too many windmills at once, in my life. It's best, as you say, to focus on the issues closest to your heart.

Borepatch - I agree. And I think that sound has the potential to be the sweetest sound we've heard in a while.

Mike - Geez... WARN a brother, will ya? :) I almost had to gouge my own eyes out with a stick after clicking the link.
