Morning Giggle...

Overheard a conversation in the office before heading out into the field this morning. We share a large common office area with building inspectors, construction inspectors, and health department folks.

One of the building inspectors likes to pontificate on his vast knowledge of public affairs and politics pretty much every morning. He makes sure to talk loudly so that everyone can hear him lay down the facts of whatever world problem he's solving at the moment. This morning, the subject was California's potential legalization of Marijuana.

The focus shifted to whether businesses having the right to continue to forbid employees to imbibe - even if the state legalizes a drug.* He was describing to everyone about how long drugs can be detected in someone's system if they do a Phallical test.

I truly thought I was going to crap myself :)

*My opinion: Of course they do.

Paladin, I like how you refer to your family in your profile. I'm sure they are lucky to have you.

As for legalization of drugs, this mom of 6 would be very upset. I think the nod from the government would cause a lot more kids to use, and that would be awful.

Xmichra - Yeah.. I thought I heard him wrong at first. I raised my head over the cubical partion and said "What kind of test was that?"

He looked at me like I was stupid and said, "Phallical."

And then he touched his head and said,"That's when they test your Phallicals."

I'm glad he explained it to the dumb dog catcher. :)

Opus - I'm the lucky one, and I try my best to remember that every day.

I'm of mixed opinions on the legalization of drugs, myself. I'm probably one of the few people on the planet my age that has never even smoked weed. I think its ridiculous for the feds to ban weed, though, while they collect tons of taxes on alcohol and tobacco - both of which are equally destructive in their own ways.

I guess I'm more of a states rights leaner on this one. If a community is generally fine with legalizing pot, the feds should butt out. If individuals don't like legalized drugs in their state, but have been out voted, they should move somewhere that bans it. If weed is then a detriment to that society, it will be pretty self evident pretty quickly - and the problem can self correct.

I'm not a crusader or even particularly interested in the "fight", though. Still forming my opinions :)
