Style Saturday - 11/13/2010

I know they aren't comfortable. I know that, if carried to the extremes found in tight-waisting, they can be very damaging to a woman's internal organs. I probably wouldn't wear one either, if I was a woman.

But, damn it, I can't help but like corsets.

What the heck is an "Electric Corset"?

All these ads are from the late 1800's and early 1900's. I can remember touring a restored historic Bordello in Cripple Creek Colorado when I was a boy with my folks on vacation. My parents regretted the visit almost immediately. "Mom... what's a prostitute?".

Anyway, I actually remember parts of the tour pretty well. I loved old stuff even way back then. The can remember the tour guide showing us a special chair that the Soiled Doves would sit in to have their corsets laced up. When you sat in it it was like sitting backwards in a chair. The girl would hold on to the "back" while she was cinched up. The tour guide told us it was pretty common for the ladies to faint, do to the thinner mountain air and lack of breathing room afforded by a tight corset.
