Rough Week

Geez... what is it about the week before Christmas that makes all the crazies come out? This was a really long, slow, boring week at work periodically punctuated by bursts of stupid/crazy from the citizens that I serve.

Example #1 - I'm on call this week for "emergencies" after hours. After spending 12 hours at work Sunday, I got home and managed to get half way through dinner before being called out by the Police. Seems some idiot caused a multi-car pile up and then fled the scene before the Police could arrive. My money is on Drunk as a Skunk.

When the cops were doing a vehicle inventory on the abandoned car before having it towed off, they discovered this little guy cowering under one of the seats...

I had to come in and take it to the shelter. What kind of an asshole runs off and leaves his friggin' dog? Even if you're going to be rat bastard enough to cause a wreck and run away... it takes special kind of bastard to abandon a puppy to who knows what fate. That's Advanced Studies in Dick right there.

Example #2 - Last night, I was parking the truck 15 minutes before going off duty at the end of another mind-numbing 12 hour stint, when Police Dispatch called me on the radio. Seems a citizen had called 911 for help in an animal related emergency.

Her dog would not allow her to put it on a leash. She wanted me to travel all the way across town to ring her doorbell for her, in hopes that the dog would then run down stairs to see who was there. This, according to the master plan, would make it easier for the lady to put a leash on it.

I'll spare you the details of our conversation on the phone. Suffice to say I won't be getting a Christmas Card from her this year.

Like I said - the crazies are out in full force. Maybe it was the recent lunar eclipse? I dunno....

Thankfully, I'm off duty now until Sunday except for being on-call a couple of nights. Lots and lots to cram into the last two days before Christmas! Hope everyone is doing well and having a better week than I am :)

If I'd been there you'd never have gotten that call. I'd have scooped that pup up and taken him home. Some people shouldn't be allowed near kids or animals.

M.D. - Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Xmichra - Aside from trying not to get eaten by something, the toughest part of my job is not strangling people on a regular basis :)

Six - I'm tempted by that too. I'm under strict orders from the Mrs. not to bring anything else home from work... it can be an occupational hazzard :)
