Important Point to Remember

In the aftermath of the terrible Ohio School shooting, School Superintendent Joseph Bergant apparently has everything under control now:

“I want to assure parents, I want to assure our faculty, and most importantly, our students, that you will be safe when re-entering our program.”

That's a lie.

Its a well meaning lie, I'm sure, but a dangerous lie none the less. As much as you would like to, Mr. Bergant, you can't assure any of those people that they will be safe. As much as those people might crave that assurance, it's not true.

Is life. Is not safe.

No politician, administrator, or well meaning official of any sort can "assure" you that through some program, law, or other action you and yours will be kept safe. Its just a cold hard fact of life. There are things you can do to make yourself safer. There are things the government and schools can do to increase the safety of your environment.

However, blind faith in any assurance of absolute safety will eventually dissapoint you every. single. time.

That's important to remember. Even during a time of grief when you're looking for comfort. Sometimes, especially then.

No kidding. It's pretty crazy to make such false promises too.
