EDC - Honest Abe Style

The American Treasures of the Library of Congress exhibition features lots of fascinating artifacts from the Civil War Era - not the least of which is the contents of President Lincoln's pockets on the night that he was assassinated.....

lincoln pocket contents

A Wallet, some eyeglasses, some newspaper clippings, a Five Dollar Confederate Note.... and this:

lincoln pocket knife

The President, as any self respecting person should, carried a pocket knife.

I wonder if President Obama carries a knife?

Naw... I'm sure he has an Edged Tool Czar on-call for any knife work that needs to be done. Doofus would probably cut himself, anyway.

Congress pen knife, with what looks like ivory scales (ivory tends to crack over time, and you can see a crack in the scale shown in the pic). Eisenhower gave away pen knives to White House visitors, Case Knives still markets an "Eisenhower Pen" pattern with his named etched on the blade in his honor. The current White House Gift shop offers no knives for sale.

I'd be willing to bet that Mitt Romney carries a pocket knife.
