Gone Fishing

I've held this ground since February 2008. 987 posts, covering everything from guns, to politics, to preparedness, to my love of old stuff, weird stuff, and beautiful stuff - not to mention everyone's apparent favorite: Girl Friday.

I think I'm done with this, for now. Maybe I'll be back in the Fall if things calm down at work and in life. I just don't have the time right now, and when I do have the time it seems that I just don't have the urge. I'll leave this blog on line, at least for now.

I'll still be lurking around other blogs, of course. There's lots of folks I like to visit. Ya'll take care.

Paintball's Grandfather

Found this on Shorpy the other day and thought it was interesting.

1909 ny duelling wax bullets

The picture was taken in New York back in 1909. The man in the photo is participating in a sport that was briefly very popular in the early 20th century. People would don heavy canvas coats and fencing style helmets with thick, clear glass panels protecting their eyes - and then duel with each other using wax bullets. Often, as seen here, the guns even had guards like you find on a cutlass to protect their hands.

I had never heard of this before, but apparently is was popular enough back in the day that the sport was included in the 1908 Olympic Games.

Girl Friday - 5/18/2012 - Tyra Banks

I'm still alive. Just busy as hell. I'm assuming at some point I'll have enough spare time to actually read a blog or two on the internet, or maybe actually post something of my own besides the weekly Girl Friday post.... but you know what happens when you "ass-ume".

We're down with the brown this week on Girl Friday....

Girl Friday - 5/04/2012 - Ryu Ji Hye

Work is flat out KICKING MY ASS!!! There's not enough people for field coverage and the call volume gets heavier every day.  I'll be a minimum of 14 hours overtime this week alone - and that's just in 5 days time. The stupidity of the general public is almost smothering in it's intensity.

Ah, Well.... Enough little bitch whining.... There's only one cure for my beat down attitude. Ok, two cures if you count finding another job. Since odds are against that happening, bring on:

A man walks into a grocery store....

A man walked into a grocery store in Salt Lake City the other day, bought a knife, and then went nuts and started stabbing people at random. Multiple stabbings, multiple victims, and blood everywhere....

Then, before the suspect could find another victim - a citizen with a gun stopped the madness. "A guy pulled gun on him and told him to drop his weapon or he would shoot him. So, he dropped his weapon and the people from Smith's grabbed him."

By the time officers arrived the suspect had been subdued by employees and shoppers. Police had high praise for gun carrying man who ended the hysteria. Lt. Brian Purvis said, "This was a volatile situation that could have gotten worse. We can only assume from what we saw it could have gotten worse. He was definitely in the right place at the right time."

Could be worse....

I suppose Gunny could be allergic to me. As it is, we have the results of the dog allergy testing. Gunny is allergic to bermuda grass, crab grass, bahia grass, quack grass, mesquite trees, cedar elm, yellow pine, mold, house dust, cat dander, a bunch of different weeds, and some other stuff I can't pronouce.

They made up a serum while we were at the Vet, and I gave him his first allergy shot last Sunday when I got home from work. We have to build up the dosage and if all goes well we should see some results anywhere from 3 - 6 months from now. He'll get a shot every week for a couple of months then it goes to every other week when he's on full strength serum.

Fingers crossed....

Work is still busy and blogging time is nil. Things should settle down in a week or two. I hope.
