Self Pity vs. Grit

I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Or in less poetic terms, if you prefer ...

Life doesn't care if you are sad, or mad. So might as well just get on about it.

There was once a little bird that missed the flight south and winter descended on it. It sat on a tree branch and shivered and then it dropped off to the ground as if dead. A cow came along and dumped a hot load on the bird. Revived, the bird emerged from the steaming heap and began to chirp bitterly, not being happy where it was. A passing cat heard the chirping walked over, pawed away the stuff and ate the bird.

(1) It's better to be dumped on than dead.

(2) Not everyone who dumps on you is your enemy.

(3) Not everyone who gets your out of sh%t is your friend.

(4) If you are covered with sh%t, best keep your mouth shut.

I found that rather inspirational.

That's one of Aesop's fables, right?
